Corydoras aeneus
BRONZE CORYDORAS

Also Known as Hyphessobrycon ecuadoriensis

The Red and Blue Columbian Tetra is one of my favourite tropical fish - certainly from among the Tetras. When mature, a school of these Tetras in aquaria are truly beautiful to behold.

What's on this Page:

NATURAL RANGE:

The Bronze Corydoras is to be found in South America throughout the Amazon region. They are to be found in shallow streams with silty bottoms.

DESCRIPTION:

The Bronze Corydoras grows to a length of about 70mm, with males being slightly smaller and thinner than the females.

TANK REQUIREMENTS:

Bronze Corydoras are an easy fish to look after and therefore make a great beginner's catfish. They are peaceful fish and should be kept in schools of at least 6.

FEEDING:

The Bronze Corydoras is omnivorous, which means they will eat just about everything.

BREEDING:

Bronze Corydoras are an extremely easy fish to breed. To begin the breeding process simply change the usual percentage of water for cleaning and/or increase the water temperature.

Males will pursue the females around the tank until the female accepts the male. A spawning site will then be selected - usually a broad leaf or glass side. Some nudging of the female will take place prior to spawning, which involves a 'T-position,' with the male in front of the female at right angles to her to form a 'T.' In all, some 200 eggs may be laid.

Adult Corydoras will not eat their eggs or young if well fed. The eggs should be removed from community tanks to prevent them being consumed. The eggs will hatch after 5 to 6 days.

Fry should be fed infusoria or similar fry food.
