Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is a World Heritage Area, for outstanding natural values and outstanding cultural values. It was first listed in 1987 for its natural value and then in 1994 for its cultural values also.
Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park has seasonal opening hours and is open most days. The park is closed overnight. See the park guide or visit the park website for further details.
Cultural Centre - Free (Daily - 7am to 6pm / Information Desk - 8am to 5pm)
It is recommended that the Cultural Centre be the first place to visit at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Here you will be introduced to the Anangu (traditional owners) culture. You can also buy the park guide here for $2.00.
Facilities at the cultural centre include toilets, picnic facilities (including gas BBQs), souvenirs, snacks and local art.
The Mala Walk begins at the Mala Carpark. The Mala Walk is an all access easy 2 km return walk to Kantju Gorge, taking about 1 hour to complete. This walk provides the opportunity to view important Anangu cultural sites, including rock art and camp sites, before reaching the magnificent Kantju Gorge.
There is a free Ranger-Guided Mala Walk most mornings (May to September 10am; October to April 8am). This experience goes for about 1.5 hours.
The Uluru Base Walk is the best way to take in all that Uluru has to offer. It is best to start this walk at the Mala Carpark. It is a moderate 10.6 km circuit walk around the base of uluru, taking in Kantju Gorge and Mutitjulu Waterhole along the way.
The Valley of the Winds is a difficult 7.4 km circuit walk, that includes Karu Lookout and Karingana Lookout. The walk can be shortened to just either Karu Lookout (1.1 km - moderate) or Karingana Lookout (2.7 km - difficult).
The photos are all hosted at Flickr and can be viewed via the slideshows below. Alternatively, clicking on the centre of each slideshow will take you to the album at Flickr, which will of course allow you to view far better images.
